SOLVED:Carbonyl cyanide 4 -(trifluoromethoxy) phenylhydrazone (FCCP) is a proton ionophore: it enables protons to pass freely through membranes. Treatment of E. coli with FCCP prevents the accumulation of lactose in these cells.
